The SI-DST (DriveStart) is an IGBT-based medium-voltage soft starter. It is the first of its kind and has been optimized for applications that require the lowest possible mains load through correspondingly reduced starting currents with a high motor torque at the same time. The state-of-the-art technology of the soft starter allows the motors to be started with extremely low mains currents and mains loads that are second to none. In most cases, the mains load is lower than when operating with the nominal motor current. This ensures safe start-up of the most demanding applications.
Industry around the world benefits from our extensive experience in the design and manufacture of systems that optimize the starting of large electric motors, even under the most difficult conditions. The added value that we create for our customers is unsurpassed, and with the two DriveStart soft starters, the Solcon-IGEL Group presents a unique and innovative product that significantly expands the uses and applications of soft starters and represents a cost-effective alternative to frequency converter drives.
Advantages
Dramatic reduction in mains current during motor start-up
Starting of loaded motor can be usually done with lower than rated current
Eliminates voltage drops and dips during start-up
Smoother acceleration of loads
Heavy duty starting of high torque mill applications
No increased demands on the motor windings and motor bearings. Also ideal for retrofit existing systems
Using a multi-start system design (one starter for several motors) expands Capex saving further
Smaller feed-in transformers possible due to lower current.
Easy set-up saves commissioning costs
low maintenance efforts
Competitive compact footprint leads to savings in building costs
Less generating capacity needed due to lower starting current
Features
Input voltage – ≤11kV 50/60Hz +10% -15
Power range – ≤18MVA
Mains starting current – 10% to 120% of motor rated current
Unlimited number of motor starts possible due to the starting current being lower than the rated motor current.
Starting torque – Up to 150% of motor rated torque
Built-in synchronization system (bypass), from DriveStart2 to mains and back
