Medium Voltage Soft Starter Solution for high-power compressors in Industrial Gases
Motor Ratings: 10kV 250A, 500A and 67 A / 6.6 kV / 630 KW / 50 HZ
Messer Haiphong Industrial Gases, a leading player in Vietnam’s industrial gas sector, required a reliable solution to start and control a large number of high-power air compressors operating in harsh industrial conditions.
Their goal was to improve motor protection, reduce electrical stress, and maintain stable system performance under continuous load.
Solcon-IGEL supplied HRVS-DN medium voltage soft starters for two distinct compressor installations—both critical to Messer’s production infrastructure.
Installation 1: 10kV High-Power Compressors
At MESSER HAI PHONG INDUSTRIAL GASES CO., LTD, the system included 12 high-inertia air compressors operating at 10kV, with motor ratings between 1MW and 5MW.
To manage the startup of these motors efficiently, Solcon-IGEL delivered:
- 3 x HRVS-DN Soft Starters
- Voltage: 10kV
- Current ratings: 250A and 500A
- Application: Large compressor loads with high torque demands
These MV soft starters offered a controlled acceleration profile, reduced inrush current, and minimized mechanical stress on the motors and connected systems.
Installation 2: 6.6kV Medium Compressors
The second system featured two air compressors, each operating at 6.6kV / 630kW / 67A / 50Hz.
Solcon-IGEL provided:

- Voltage: 6.6kV
- Designed for continuous duty and high start-stop frequency
Delivered with adaptive control algorithms and thyristor-based switching
